Accommodation with dogs in Spain

Spain is not exactly a dog-friendly country. But if you search a little you will certainly find dog friendly accommodations. There are also campsites where a dog is welcome, but almost always on the condition that you stay on a leash. In the mountains and in many nature parks in northern Spain it is no problem to walk with a dog on the loose

Dogs and restaurants

In principle, eating in a restaurant with a dog is prohibited, but there are always restaurant owners who have no problem with that. Sitting on a terrace with a dog is usually no problem but there are exceptions where a dog is not welcome. So it is always useful to ask first

Dogs on the beach

At almost all beaches in Spain dogs are NOT allowed. There are beaches where dogs are allowed, and more dog beaches are added every year. You can check Redcanina where the Spanish dog beaches are mapped. The following applies to every dog beach:

You must have your dog under control at all times
the dog must not bother other people
Always clear up dog waste
Always have your dog passport with you

Dogs and rules

Please consider the following if you are going on holiday to Spain with your dog:

An animal passport according to the European model
The dog must have an identification chip
Your dog must be vaccinated against rabies 1 month in advance and not older than one year
Your dog must be kept on a lead in the car when you are driving or in the boot but with a partition

Dogs and flying.

If you want to take your dog on holiday to Spain, check with the airline beforehand. If you can take your dog with you, check the conditions carefully. Some airlines accept dogs on board, such as Transavia, KLM, Iberia and Vueling. Others do not, such as RyanAir and Easyjet. Check the airlines' websites for information
